Book Excerpt :

When we live with unresolved anger or hurt, the result is nearly always bitterness, broken relationships, and unhealthy behaviors. Unforgiveness not only sabotages our interactions with those around us, it impedes our own spiritual growth and inner peace. And it can happen to anyone. In her most vulnerable writing yet, Ruth Graham reveals how a visit to Angola Prison inspired her to release the unforgiveness lurking in her own heart--toward others, herself, and even her heavenly Father and her earthly father, evangelist Billy Graham. In this encouraging book, she weaves her own personal experiences with biblical examples to explore what holds us back from forgiving others and ourselves--and what we gain when we finally discover the power to forgive. Along the way, she guides us into our own deeply personal experiences of forgiveness that will penetrate our protective walls and unleash true transformation in our lives.

Book Short Summary:

The book constitutes a sociological analysis of the origins of the Polish-German antagonism in the nineteenth and twentieth century and of the process of overcoming it. The author discusses the role played by the religious and political leaders as well as intellectuals of both nations and presents survey research data showing the marked improvement in mutual relations. After a long history of alternating relations, things between Poland and Germany were as bad as never before after World War II. The Nazi attack on Poland in 1939 and the atrocities committed during the occupation resulted in intense Polish hostility towards Germany. On the German side, the loss of territories created a feeling of harm and contributed to deepen anti-Polish stereotypes. The process of reconciliation emanated from initiatives taken by the Christian churches and courageous individuals on both sides, but the crucial step was taken by Chancellor Willy Brandt and the Polish communist leader Wladyslaw Gomulka, who in 1970 worked out a comprehensive agreement for normalizing relations between Poland and the Federal Republic. Following the collapse of communist regimes and unification of Germany mutual relations took the form of co-operation and partnership within the structures of democratic Europe. Today, both sides are about to overcome former stereotypes. While some differences of interests still remain, the overall picture of the current relations between Germany and Poland is one proof that even deepest wounds of the past do not prevent nations from overcoming antagonism and from building friendly relations.

Book Short Summary:

The first free elections in South Africa's history were held in 1994. Within a year legislation was drafted to create a Truth and Reconcilliation Commission to establish a picture of the gross human rights violations committed between 1960 and 1993. It was to seek the truth and make it known to the public and to prevent these brutal events ever happening again. From 1996 and over the following two years South Africans were exposed almost daily to revelations about their traumatic past. Antije Krog's full account of the Commission's work using the testimonies of the oppressed and oppressors alike is a harrowing and haunting book in which the voices of ordinary people shape the course of history. Book Short Summary:

How to Fully Accept Yourself—Just As You Are Most of us have plenty of experience with self-blame and guilt—but we are often at a loss when it comes to forgiving ourselves. According to Colin Tipping, this is because our idea of forgiveness usually requires a victim and a perpetrator—which is impossible when we play both roles at the same time. Tipping's Radical Forgiveness process allows us to navigate this dilemma for deep and lasting healing. To help us gain freedom from excessive inner criticism and self-sabotaging beliefs, he offers the Radical Self-Forgiveness book and companion audio program. Join Colin Tipping to learn his step-by-step methods for going beyond the level of self-judgment and recrimination to the deeper spiritual state in which true forgiveness occurs. What's "radical" about Colin Tipping's approach to forgiveness? "It's not about telling ourselves a new story about something that happened," he says. "It's about creating a profound shift at the spiritual level." Based on his world-renowned forgiveness workshops, the Radical Self-Forgivenessbook shares clear insights for resolving our deepest internal wounds using Tipping's five-stage forgiveness process. The Radical Self-Forgivenessaudio edition offers a toolbox of exercises, techniques, and guided practices designed to help us break the cycle of blame and victimhood—an empowering attitude that helps us fully embrace every experience. Many of our fears, anxieties, and even physical health problems originate from the parts of us that we consider unforgiveable. Yet when we recognize that we are worthy of forgiveness—no matter who we are or what we have done—we gain access to the loving energy of spirit that can heal our deepest wounds. Used alone or in combination for an integrated practice, the Radical Self-Forgiveness book and audio program open the doorway to the freedom and inner peace that come from true self-acceptance.

Book Short Summary:

Most Christians only see the "public" face of Mormonism, thanks to their persuasive PR campaigns: clean-faced young people, parents committed to family values, and spectacular temples. But what do Mormons really believe? In this revealing book you'll learn their shocking doctrines, like: It's good to lie... to protect the church. There are millions of gods. God was once a man, and became a god. We can become gods, too. Jesus and Lucifer were spirit brothers. We all have an "Eternal Mother." God is a polygamist. The Jesus of the Bible was a polygamist. The Jesus of Christianity is NOT the Jesus of Mormonism. Sins are forgiven through good works. Salvation by faith in Jesus is "utter nonsense." Black people were cursed by God. A group of gods helped Jesus form the earth. Some sins require the shedding of your own blood. You'll also read the moving testimony of former Mormon, Cindy Benson. She reveals from personal experience the ugly, hidden side of Mormonism. She was only eleven years old when her 53-year-old father announced that a 15-year-old girl must become his second wife. Once you know what Mormons really believe, you will be better equipped to witness to them. Here is what Mormon leaders really taught their members, and what the Bible has to say about it. We believe this book will help you create burning questions "instead of a "burning in the bosom") for Mormons you know. And the Bible verses are right there to give you the answer.

Book Short Summary:

We walk to God, how wondrous our task, Simple truth, no questions left to ask. We walk to God, an awesome holy thing, Our open hearts are all we’re asked to bring. Ordinary Miracles is an oxymoron in a world where peace seems unreliable and prayers seem unanswered. But what if the real world exists where miracles are the norm? Miracles of joy and forgiveness always occur within our minds, and their external form may or may not be apparent to us. However, since miracles always come from love, they always offer an inner experience of bliss. The love that causes miracles is only ordinary because it is always present within us. Miracles are ordinary because they are our true nature, not a bonus that was earned by someone extra-ordinary. No matter how successfully we’ve hidden our inner spark of love, it remains with us, always the truth of who we are, always awaiting our consent to offer miracles. The poetry of Ordinary Miracles is the author’s response to the inner Voice for God, what she calls the Holy Spirit. Inspired by A COURSE in MIRACLES, these poems celebrate the truth that we always have a choice: to invest ourselves in thoughts of kindness rather than criticism, happiness rather than sorrow. But whatever we choose, we cannot change the magnificent reality of what we are. The poems are written as an acknowledgment that the Voice for God offers a very personal relationship with each of us. The Voice for God is always patient, always answers, always loves us, and to our little effort adds the strength of God. In the COURSE, Jesus reminds us, “Love waits on welcome, not on time ...” (Text, chapter 13) The most profound journey we each make is to that place within where God patiently awaits our certain return.

Testimony of Miracles is a powerful life experience of death and near-death events, followed by visitations of angels to bring guidance to a child who was left abandoned on the streets at age seven. It is about a young man who joined the military, to die in battle, to escape the misery of not having a family and living on the streets, to having a supernatural force save his life hundreds of times in the Vietnam War, to being visited in person and given instructions that put him in church and revealed these thirty miracles of the past and unfold in the present. After being sanctified by the Holy Spirit and going through a period of forgiveness, teachings began at his bedside as the Holy Spirit Himself taught him the Holy Bible and directed his new life in the likeness of Jesus Christ (I John 2:27).

Book Short Summary:

In our age of theological relativism, Jesus' question to His own disciples continues to ring true: "Who do the people say that the Son of Man is?" Through Jesus' seven miracles and His seven "I Am" sayings, the apostle John provides a clear answer to that all-important question. Furthermore, what do Jesus' miracles represent? Are they designed to point to something or someone? In our "supernatural-crazed" culture that affects even evangelical Christianity, it is refreshing to be reminded that biblical miracles were never arbitrary but were always purposeful, authenticating God's message and His messenger(s). In the Gospel of John, the miracles of Jesus are both Christological, that is, they highlight Jesus' Person, and eschatological, that is, they foreshadow the work the Messiah will do in His future Advent. The miracles remind us that God's desire for every believer is first and foremost a spiritual relationship with Him through His Son. Furthermore, Jesus' miracles also remind us that God's work in and for every believer will be fully and ultimately realized in the everlasting life.

This book explores the psychological nature of forgiveness for both the subjective ego and what Jung called the objective psyche, or soul. Utilizing analytical, archetypal, and dialectical psychological approaches, the notion of forgiveness is traced from its archetypal and philosophical origins in Greek and Roman mythology through its birth and development in Judaic and Christian theology, to its modern functional character as self-help commodity, relationship remedy, and global necessity. Offering a deeper understanding of the concept of "true" forgiveness as a soul event, Sandoval reveals the transformative nature of forgiveness and the implications this notion has on the self and analytical psychology.

Book Short Summary:

How does one forgive an international political transgression as deep as genocide or apartheid? Forgiveness is often conceived of as an element of personal morality, and even at that it is difficult. This book argues that it is also an essential part of political ethics, especially when dealing with collective wrongdoing by political regimes. In the past, a retributive justice demanding prosecution and punishment of all past offenses has kept the international community away from moving on to the next step in regime change. Here, Mark Amstutz takes a restorative justice approach, calling for nations to account for crimes through truth commissions, public apology and repentance, reparations, and ultimately forgiveness and the lifting of deserved penalties. The distinctive feature of forgiveness is the balance it strikes between backward-looking accountability and forward-looking reconciliation. The Healing of Nations combines a theory of the role of forgiveness in public life with four key case studies that test this ethic: Argentina, Chile, Northern Ireland, and South Africa. Amstutz uses the hard cases to illustrate the promise and limits of forgiving without forgetting.

Book Short Summary:

The Miracles of Antichrist is a philosophical novel by Selma Lagerlöf. Written as a love story between a young socialist and atheist Gaetano and Donna Micaela who is a Christian, the novel in fact represents author's criticism of socialism. The plot of the novel was inspired by a Sicilian legend: "When Antichrist comes, he shall seem as Christ", and the story centers around the antichrist in the form of a statue that Micaela prays to which seems to perform apparent miracles that are indistinguishable from those of Christ.

Book Short Summary:

Recover the true beauty of Christianity as found in forgiveness. If Christianity is to be a compelling and relevant voice in the twenty-first century, it needs a fresh message. Not a new innovation or novel interpretation, but a return to our roots. For if Christianity is not about forgiveness, it’s about nothing at all. Beginning with the horror of the Holocaust, Radical Forgiveness explores what forgiveness means--and how far it should go--in the real world of rape, child abuse, genocide, and other atrocities. With honesty and compassion Zahnd tackles questions such as... Should we always forgive? Is forgiveness always even possible? Does forgiveness enable evil? Does it sacrifice justice? Are there ANY limits? Pushing you beyond intellectual exercises, Radical Forgiveness will challenge your thinking by juxtaposing absolutely bottom-line examples with the simple question: What would you do? Book Short Summary:

I finally realized that no matter how much I wanted to, I could not protect my family. Though I daydreamed of ways for us to escape, I knew it was impossible. Dad had warned us too many times to not go mouthing off to anyone about things that are none of their business, or I'll put you all out of your misery. The oldest of three, Kitty Chappell did her best to shield her brother and sister from their fathers abuse, but little could stand in the way of his beatings and vicious remarks. None of them escaped his brutality. As a well-respected family man in their Texas community in the 1950s, her father enjoyed a sure confidence in his control over his family. His assurance proved correct when he attacked her mother and turned friends against her, aiming shocking accusations at his wife and daughter. Everyone thought her father was wonderful including the jury that gave him the minimum sentence for trying to kill Kitty's mother as she lay sleeping. Only three-and-a-half years for premeditated attempted murder! It just wasn't fair. Kitty loved God but disagreed with Him on the subject of forgiveness. Many people were in her corner, for who hasn't debated this issue with God? She didn't want to forgive, she wanted revenge! But as Kitty developed her relationship with Christ, she realized she needed to forgive the man who had caused her so much pain. Soaring Above the Ashes on the Wings of Forgiveness will keep you riveted to your seat with its twists and turns. You will be enraged and terrified with the author through her difficult journey. Ultimately, you will rejoice with her as she walks through the door of forgiveness and breathes in the fresh air of freedom. Soaring Above the Ashes on Wings of Forgiveness reveals Kittys remarkable story of courage and faith and how she developed the attitude that enabled her to overcome rather than merely survive. This touching story will inspire you to overcome your difficulties and experience your own freedom and joy as you learn to forgive when everything in you screams for revenge.
