With unmatched suspense and her signature cinematic storytelling, #1 New York Times–bestselling author Marie Lu plunges readers back into the unforgettable world of Legend for a truly grand finale. Eden Wing has been living in his brother’s shadow for years. Even though he’s a top student at his academy in Ross City, Antarctica, and a brilliant inventor, most people know him only as Daniel Wing’s little brother. A decade ago, Daniel was known as Day, the boy from the streets who led a revolution that saved the Republic of America. But Day is no longer the same young man who was once a national hero. These days he’d rather hide out from the world and leave his past behind. All that matters to him now is keeping Eden safe—even if that also means giving up June, the great love of Daniel’s life. As the two brothers struggle to accept who they’ve each become since their time in the Republic, a new danger creeps into the distance that’s grown between them. Eden soon finds himself drawn so far into Ross City’s dark side, even his legendary brother can’t save him. At least not on his own . . .

Book Short Summary:

Why are owls regarded either as wise or as harbingers of doom? What gave rise to the fanciful belief that storks bring babies? Why is the eagle associated with victory or the hummingbird with paradise? The answers are here in this new and engaging book. By re-telling the many legends, beliefs, proverbs and predictions associated with more than 80 birds from many nations, it brings into focus the close – and often ancient – links between humans and these remarkable feathered descendants of dinosaurs. Discover, for instance: Why the cockerel features on many church spires The one sacred bird that symbolises life and peace in most cultures How to dispel bad luck if you see this black-and-white bird The South-American 'devil bird' once thought to be a dragon Birds: lore, myth and legend draws on historical accounts and scientific literature to reveal how colourful tales or superstitions were shaped by human imagination from each bird's behaviour or appearance. It offers an enchanting and different perspective on birds across the world.

Book Short Summary:

Charlie Edwards worked many years at his fathers' funeral parlor, but Charlie was getting pretty bored talking to the dead every day and not getting any response. So one day he decided he would pick up someone at the local pub. Put something in their drink and drive them back to the funeral parlor. Then he would place them in a casket with a glass top so he could see their face and talk to them. When his drugged victims woke up they weren't too happy to be hanging out at the Edwards Funeral Parlor as Charlie Edwards’ entertainment. Charlie didn't care what they thought because being able to talk to a live person meant everything to Charlie. Charlie would get the same response from the people he drugged. They would plea for Charlie to let them go. Some would offer him money, you name it, but that wasn't his intentions. Charlie was just lonely and sick and tired of talking to a bunch of stiffs. Charlie would try to console the person he held captive, but that was no use. Charlie decided if they didn't cooperate he would take them out back to the cemetery and bury them alive for not cooperating. Charlie’s little escapade went on for several months until one of his victims persuaded him to let them out. But that was a bad idea the victim tried to overpower Charlie, but Charlie just pulled out his switch blade knife out of his pocket and stabbed them in the neck. Charlie decided from now on that wasn't going to happen again. As the months went by and the body count piled up in the cemetery Charlie was getting bored again and decided to stop bringing people back to the cemetery to bury alive. Charlie’s victims he buried alive, wasn't so forgiving. One stormy night when Charlie was alone in the funeral parlor eating a sandwich and combing the hair of a dead person in their casket. The lights started flickering on and off because of the storm. Charlie thought he heard a noise coming from outside the funeral parlor. Charlie said to himself, “It sounds like an angry mob of people.” But Charlie just brushed it off and said, “It must be the storm playing with my imagination.” Charlie just shrugged it off as just his imagination playing tricks on him. He started back combing the dead person’s hair and was more concerned with making sure the dead person looked their best for their funeral in the morning. Then all of a sudden the people Charlie drugged and buried alive in the cemetery were back and ready to take Charlie to the cemetery out back to be buried alive. Charlie said, "What's that noise? It must be the storm." Then the door burst open and Charlie dropped his sandwich on the floor as his eyes flew wide open.

Book Short Summary:

Legend Tripping: A Contemporary Legend Casebook explores the practice of legend tripping, wherein individuals or groups travel to a site where a legend is thought to have taken place. Legend tripping is a common informal practice depicted in epics, stories, novels, and film throughout both contemporary and historical vernacular culture. In this collection, contributors show how legend trips can express humanity’s interest in the frontier between life and death and the fascination with the possibility of personal contact with the supernatural or spiritual. The volume presents both insightful research and useful pedagogy, making this an invaluable resource in the classroom. Selected major articles on legend tripping, with introductory sections written by the editors, are followed by discussion questions and projects designed to inspire readers to engage critically with legend traditions and customs of legend tripping and to explore possible meanings and symbolics at work. Suggested projects incorporate digital technology as it appears both in legends and in modes of legend tripping. Legend Tripping is appropriate for students, general readers, and folklorists alike. It is the first volume in the International Society for Contemporary Legend Research series, a set of casebooks providing thorough and up-to-date studies that showcase a variety of scholarly approaches to contemporary legends, along with variants of legend texts, discussion questions, and projects for students. Book Short Summary:

In this volume you will find stories about One-eyed, Seven Horned Monsters that double as mothers-in-law, as well as Tricksters, Illusionists, Shape-shifters, Ogres and even the Origin of the Meaning of Fate itself. The Uyghur people have origins that are as ancient as the Han Chinese, if not older. Originating in central China, they were slowly pushed further west until they settled in the Tarim Basin. But the Uyghurs are not just limited to East Turkestan and can also be found inhabiting the Central Asian countries of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan. Smaller communities can also be found in Mongolia, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Russia. Because they have travelled so far and have encountered so many different cultures, it is therefore not surprising that Uyghur Folk-Lore is extensive, which when woven together in such a volume, results in a rich tapestry that can only be pleasing for the reader. We invite you to curl up with this volume and indulge yourself in the fifty-nine tales and stories that stretch back in time, almost to the great flood itself. The Uyghurs are an ethnic minority, who like the Tibetans, have been fighting for their independence for generations. A percentage of the sales from this book will be donated to charities, schools and special causes.

Book Short Summary:

In this volume the myths and legends of ancient Egypt are embraced in a historical narrative which begins with the rise of the great Nilotic civilization and ends with the Graeco-Roman Age. The principal deities are dealt with chiefly at the various periods in which they came into prominence, while the legends are so arranged as to throw light on the beliefs and manners and customs of the ancient people. Metrical renderings are given of such of the representative folk songs and poems as can be appreciated at the present day. Egyptian mythology is of highly complex character, and cannot be considered apart from its racial and historical aspects. The Egyptians were, as a Hebrew prophet has declared, a "mingled people", and this view has been confirmed by recent ethnological research: "the process; of racial fusion begun in the Delta at the dawn of history", says Professor Elliot Smith, "spread through the whole land of Egypt". In localities the early Nilotic inhabitants accepted the religious beliefs of settlers, and fused these with their own. They also clung tenaciously to the crude and primitive tribal beliefs of their remote ancestors, and never abandoned an archaic conception even when they acquired new and more enlightened ideas; they accepted myths literally, and regarded with great sanctity ancient ceremonies and usages. They even showed a tendency to multiply rather than to reduce the number of their gods and goddesses, by symbolizing their attributes. As a result, we find it necessary to deal with a bewildering number of deities and a confused mass of beliefs, many of which are obscure and contradictory. But the average Egyptian was never dismayed by inconsistencies in religious matters: he seemed rather to be fascinated by them. There was, strictly speaking, no orthodox creed in Egypt; each provincial centre had its own distinctive theological system, and the religion of an individual appears to have depended mainly on his habits of life. "The Egyptian", as Professor Wiedemann has said, "never attempted to systematize his conceptions of the different divinities into a homogeneous religion. It is open to us to speak of the religious ideas of the Egyptians, but not of an Egyptian religion."Ê

Book Short Summary:

Depicting the lives of the saints in an array of factual and fictional stories, The Golden Legend was perhaps the most widely read book, after the Bible, during the late Middle Ages. It was compiled around 1260 by Jacobus de Voragine, a scholarly friar and later archbishop of Genoa, whose purpose was to captivate, encourage, and edify the faithful, while preserving a vast store of information pertaining to the legends and traditions of the church. In this translation, the first in English of the complete text, William Granger Ryan captures the immediacy of this rich work, which offers an important guide for readers interested in medieval art and literature and, more generally, in popular religious culture. Arranged according to the order of saints' feast days, these fascinating stories are now combined into one volume. This edition also features an introduction by Eamon Duffy contextualizing the work.

Book Short Summary:

Description The myths and legends of England’s South West are full of what is called "local colour" and are richer in legend than any other part. The legends in this volume are infused with Celtic poetry and symbolism, inherent in the blood of the people of the West They afford us not only glimpses of ancient times and of old habits of thought and life, but also of the country itself at different times of the year. Stories like THE LOST LAND OF LYONESSE which for part of the Arthurian legends, home to Tristan, which is said to have sunk beneath the waves. However, almost 100 years ago, the Great Western Railway realised the value of these stories to travellers and has saved 12 of these precious remnants of old England and put them into print for us. The stories in this volume are: The Church the Devil Stole The Parson and the Clerk The Weaver of Dean Combe The Demon Who Helped Drake The Samson of Tavistock The Midnight Hunter of the Moor The Lost Land of Lyonesse The Piskie's Funeral The Spectre Coach St. Neot, the Pigmy Saint The Old Man of Cury The Hooting Carn The Padstow May Day Songs (Supplement) Because so many old stories were passed on orally by storytellers, with the advent of the industrial revolution printed books became more common and these stories became “lost” as less attended the once popular storytelling sessions. Then in 1870 the UK Education Act undertook to teach all children how to read and the art of storytelling all but died out altogether. This volume is sure to keep you enchanted for hours, if only not because of the content, but because of their quality, and will have you and your young wards coming back for more time-and-again. ============ KEYWORDS/TAGS: folklore, fairy tales, myths, legends, children’s stories, bedtime, fables, wonder tales, West country, myth, legend, land, , Abbey, ancient, awe-inspiring, beasts, beautiful, black, Bodmin, Brent, Buckfast, Buckfastleigh, Buckland, Carn, cave, centuries, Church, clerk , Cornish, Cornwall, Dartmoor, Dawlish, Dean, demon who helped drake , Devil, Devon, discover, Dodge, Drake, Exeter, gates, glorious, golf, grave, Great, headless, heart, Hooting, hooting carn , hound, journey, King, Knowles, lamentation, Land's End, Lanreath, Lelant, Lizard, Looe, lost land of lyonesse , love, magnificent, mermaid, midnight hunter of the moor , miners, moor, moorland, Mullion, neighbour, Neot, night, old man of cury, Bodmin Moor, Ordulph, padstow may day songs , Parson, Penzance, picturesque, piskie's funeral , pixie, Plymouth, prehistoric, priest, Queen, railway, Richard, rock, saint, samson of tavistock , sand-hills, Scillies, Isles of Scilly, sea, Seven, spectre coach , spectre-pack, spirit, st. neot the pigmy saint , stole , Stones, stupendous, Talland, Tavistock, Tavy, thieves, thunder, Tor, transform, weaver of dean combe , weird, West, wild, Wish, world

Book Short Summary:

The girl scouts of troop 66 were happy to finally see the rain gone. Almost all summer the rain ruined every opportunity for troop 66 to camp out and tell ghost stories around the campfire. Finally, there was no rain in the forecast all weekend. Troop 66 wasn't about to let this beautiful weekend slip by especially being that it was the last weekend of summer. Troop 66 consisted of girl scouts Sarah, Jen, Brenda and Karen. The girl scouts of troop 66 headed out down old willow road in Jen's car dressed in their girl scouts uniforms anticipating their weekend campout. As they drove slowly through the mountain they all kept a lookout for the perfect spot to pitch a tent. Karen said "Look! Over there! That looks like the perfect spot to pitch a tent and build a campfire.” The other girls chimed in and said "That's perfect." Jen pulled off the side of the road and parked the car. The sun was just setting and wouldn't be completely dark until about an hour. Just enough time to pitch their tent and gather wood for the campfire. Everyone got out of the car and got everything they needed for the weekend campout and headed to the campsite. Jen said "I'm so glad this day has finally come, because I would be so depressed if our campout got rained out and have to wait for next summer to arrive and hope that summer campout wouldn’t be ruined." "Before we begin lets all join hands and say a little prayer before we set up camp," replied Karen. After Karen said the prayer they all set up the tent and gathered firewood for the campfire. As they all sat around the campfire roasting marsh mellows and telling ghost stories the wind started to pick up and Karen said "I think I'll turn in for the night." Jen chimed in and said "I think I'll turn in as well. What about you Brenda?" Brenda answered "I think I'll get some more firewood and stay up a while longer." Jen and Karen said "Goodnight Brenda." About thirty minutes later Karen said to Jen "Did you hear that?" Jen replied "I hear a noise that sounds like Thump! Thump! Drag!" "Maybe our minds are playing tricks on us because we were telling ghost stories around the campfire," said Karen. "I heard it again," exclaimed Jen. "Why don't you check it out?" asked Jen. "Why don't you check it out for yourself, I'm not going out there, besides if it was anything, don't you think Brenda would come running inside the tent in fear telling us all about it," said Karen. "Let's go to sleep before we really scare ourselves," replied Jen.

Book Short Summary:

The power of legend is that it is never simply an old tale retold. Though the legend may be old, its meaning and influence is new in each retelling and for each new group of listeners. Young provides here a “biography” of the greatest of the classical legends, the story of the fall of Troy. As he states in his book, the greatness of the legend does not depend on its relation to historical reality, but “lies rather in the beauty and variety it has called out of the creative imaginations of artists, from Homer down to modern times, artists who with varied skill and in many forms have expressed their individual genius.” Young's text is beautifully illustrated with examples of art inspired by the legend, from literature, painting, ceramics, tapestry, sculpture, and the opera, with fresh interpretations of their meaning. The legend of Troy has survived more than 3,000 years in the art of many-from Quintus of Smyrna to Tennyson to Christopher Morley, Guérin to Baroccio to Strauss-and archaeological excavations in our own time have only enriched the imaginations of contemporary artists and scholars. In deepening our knowledge of classic texts and their changing interpretations over time, Young argues, we enhance our understanding both of the classics and of the successive civilizations they have influenced.

Book Short Summary:

While vampire stories have been part of popular culture since the beginning of the nineteenth century, it has been in recent decades that they have become a central part of American culture. Vampire Legends in Contemporary American Culture looks at how vampire stories -- from Bram Stoker's Dracula to Blacula, from Bela Lugosi's films to Love at First Bite -- have become part of our ongoing debate about what it means to be human. William Patrick Day looks at how writers and filmmakers as diverse as Anne Rice and Andy Warhol present the vampire as an archetype of human identity, as well as how many post-modern vampire stories reflect our fear and attraction to stories of addiction and violence. He argues that contemporary stories use the character of Dracula to explore modern values, and that stories of vampire slayers, such as the popular television series Buffy the Vampire Slayer, integrate current feminist ideas and the image of the Vietnam veteran into a new heroic version of the vampire story.

Book Short Summary:

The goal of this volume is to explore the social and political dynamics of rumor and the related concept of urban or contemporary legend. These forms of communication often appear in tandem with social problems, including riots, racial or political violence, and social and economic upheavals. The volume emphasizes the connection of rumor to a set of social concerns from government corruption and corporate scandal, to racial, religious, and other prejudices. Central to the dialogue are issues of truth, belief, history, public policy, and evidence.Rumor has been recognized as one of the most important contributing factors to violence and discrimination. Yet, despite its significance in exacerbating social discord and mistrust, little systematic scholarly attention has been paid to the political origins and consequences of rumor. Rumor is defined as a proposition for belief that is not backed by secure standards of evidence. Rumor can be traditional or not, and can be expressed as a simple claim of fact. In both instances groups of claim-makers, operating out of their own interests and with a set of resources, attempt to depict reality, and if possible, impact the future. The need for this book is underscored by changing patterns of technology. What in the past was grounded in face- to-face interaction is now often found on the Internet, which is a major source of rumor. An appreciation of how new electronic forms of communication affect communal belief is essential for explicating rumor dynamics. The volume is comprehensive. Essays cover race and ethnicity, migration and globalization, corporate malfeasance, and state and government corruption. While editors and contributors well appreciate the dynamic nature of rumors and legends, the high quality of the effort make it evident that the issues that are raised and reoccur will serve to channel and inspire research in this major field of communications research for years to come.

Book Short Summary:

The Babysitter and The Man Upstairs has been adapted into a short film from Drac Von Stoller's 31 Horrifying Tales From The Dead Series available on Amazon Video. Jamie was thumbing through the newspaper in search of a weekend job for the summer. She was sixteen years old and needed the extra money to help save for textbooks when she starts college in the fall. She tossed the newspaper on the floor frustrated with no results. Then one of the newspaper pages flipped over to the last page of the classifieds and there it was in small print, "babysitter needed for the summer." She said, "How did I miss this, maybe, I passed over it because it didn't say weekends only." Jamie called the number, and a middle-aged woman answered, and said, "May I help you?" "Yes, you can. I am interested in a babysitting job, but wasn't sure if this was an everyday thing or just weekends only," asked Jamie. "I'm sorry, but I meant to put weekends only, but I was in a hurry," explained the woman. "If you're looking to babysit every day, I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you," said the woman. "No, this is exactly what I wanted. When can I start?" asked Jamie. "Well, can you start next weekend around five pm?" said the woman. "That sounds perfect! I'll see you then," replied Jamie. Jamie hung up the phone and was excited about having a job. That would ease her mind about how she was going to be able to pay for her textbooks. The week passed by like a rocket, and it was Saturday, and Jamie showed up to her babysitting job right on time. Jamie knocked on the woman’s front door, and the woman opened the door, and said "You must be Jamie, so nice to see you." The woman introduced her children to Jamie and told her she would be back by six pm Sunday night. The woman said bye to Jamie, and her kids, then got in her car, and drove to her business trip. Jamie played some games with the children then the phone rang. Jamie picked up the phone and said, "Who's there?" all she heard was heavy breathing, and she hung up the phone, and went back to playing games with the children. Jamie checked her watch and said "Oh my! It's eight pm, how time flies when you're having fun. Well children it's time for bed." Jamie escorted the children upstairs to the bedroom that they shared together. She read them a story then a few minutes later the children fell fast asleep. Jamie got out of bed with them and turned the light out, then went downstairs to watch TV before going to sleep. As Jamie was eating popcorn and watching a movie called Halloween it started storming outside. Scary movies really scare the willies out of her, but she still liked watching them anyway. Then the phone started ringing, and she picked it up, and said, Hello!" Then an eerie voice said, "Have you checked on the children lately."

Book Short Summary:

Urban legend: Lugard Road defends the "stone turtle" from going uphill Below Lugard Road, Victoria Peak, Hong Kong, there is a pile of rocks resembling giant tortoises, with the turtle's back raised, the turtle's head up, there is a tendency to crawl forward. In the 1940s, it was named one of the Eight Scenes of Hong Kong, named "Bridge in the fog", location of boardwalk. The Lugard boardwalk is the only eight scenes in Hong Kong, the remaining seven scenes are beyond recognition. At the west end of Lugard Road, there are "Turtle Rocks" and at the east end "Pig's Head Rocks". Lugard Road connects the Peak of Victoria Peak and the Western High Mountains. It has a total length of 2,400 meters and surrounds the north of Victoria Peak. The road is built along the 400-meter contour of the mountain and 152 meters from the summit of the Victoria Peak. The official said that the purpose of the road was to appreciate the Victoria Harbour scenery. In 1914, the Legislative Council approved a fund to build the road with 10,000 HK dollars. The 15th Governor of HK, Mei Hanli, named the road "Lugard Road" after the 14th Governor of HK. Official gazetted in 1915, the first section was completed in the same year. The Governor of HK Mei Hanli stepped down on Sep 12, 1918, Lugard Road was not completed. On February 6, 1922, Mei Hanli died in Suffolk, England, Lugard Road's entire project was completed that year. The Works Bureau reported that it cost 55,000 HK dollars for the first section and 90,000 HK dollars for the second phase, for a total of 145,000 HK dollars. At that time, the average person's monthly salary was 30 HK dollars, which shows that this boardwalk costs a lot. The reason for the high cost is that the road section must first be cut on the cliff as a bridge pillar, and then build a bridge to pave the road. It is the first and only boardwalk in Hong Kong. After its completion, it was hailed as "the greatest project of man to conquer nature ". Lugard was the first Hong Kong Governor to propose the renewal of the New Territories lease or the permanent cessation of the New Territories. The three successive Governors later Mei Hanli, Stubbs and Clementi agreed with. Lugard and Clementi explicitly suggested that the United Kingdom return to Weihaiwei, Shandong, in exchange for the New Territories becoming permanent concessions like Hong Kong Island and Kowloon. It is rumored that the boardwalk on Lugard Road was not built to admire the scenery of Victoria Harbour, but to prevent the "turtle" from going up the mountain and to monitor the movement of the "turtle". Is Lugard and the three other HK Governors also worried that the "stone turtle" will cause Hong Kong land sinking? There is no literature or evidence to support this statement. As a boardwalk, Lugard Road is unexpectedly strong. Looking through the pre-war annual report, Lugard Road was not mentioned for maintenance. The flood of 1926 set a record of rainfall that has not yet been broken. At the time, many road sections on the mountain top were broken, and Lugard Road was intact. In the 1937 typhoon, Lugard Road was not blown down and no maintenance was required. Lugard Road now reverts to the purpose stated during the construction, to have a panoramic view of Victoria Harbour under the Victoria Peak and the Kowloon Peninsula viewpoint. Lugard Road was named one of the world's top ten hiking trails by Lonely Planet. In 2012, the mansion on 27 Lugard Road changed hands to the developer Yu Guan under the title of 383 million. In September 2013, the Town Planning Board approved the conversion of the mansion into a hotel. This decision drew opposition and launched a signature campaign. 140,000 signatures include Lin Huanguang, the convener of the Executive Council, Liang Zhaowei, an artist. On December 8, 2016,the mansion was rated as a first-class historic building, the developer Yu Guan abandoned the hotel project. Lugard Road and the Song Dynasty Feng Shui master Lai Buyi also met. From the Central Plains to the coastal area of Guangdong, Lai Buyi "seeking dragons and exploring caves" left a prophecy at the current location of Lugard Road on Victoria Peak: "There is a stone turtle on Victoria Peak in Hong Kong. Hong Kong will land sinking when the turtle falls into the sea. " Another legend is that there is a stone turtle at the seaside below Victoria Peak, crawling from the seashore to the top of the mountain, crawling an inch a year. When the stone turtle crawls to the top of Victoria Peak, the whole dragon vein of Kowloon and Hong Kong will wake up, making Hong Kong Island and all islands land sinking, and the stone turtle will return to the sea at this time. The new wing of the HK Convention and Exhibition Centre, located in reclamation on the waterfront of Wan Chai, was completed and opened in 1997. The shape of the building's seagulls looks like a turtle in bird's eye view. It happened that the Asian financial crisis occurred after 1997. After the SARS attacked Hong Kong in 2003, Hong Kong's economy was severely hit. Finance is an important pillar of Hong Kong,a broken pillar cannot support Hong Kong. A "stone turtle" arrived at the waterfront of Victoria Harbour, triggering a land sinking in Hong Kong. In 2015, Strauss, an expert with the US Climate Center, pointed out that if global temperatures rise by four degrees, 600 million people will lose their homes due to flooding. Hong Kong is one of the ten most affected cities,it may land sinking in 200 years. Lu Yongkang, Chief Academic Officer of the HK Observatory, said that the rise in sea level in Hong Kong after 200 years is difficult to predict. Over the past sixty years (1954 to 2014), the sea level in Hong Kong has risen by an average of about 30 millimeters per decade, by the end of this century, sea levels in Hong Kong and its adjacent areas have increased by about one meter. In July 2018, the HK Monetary Authority and three note-issuing banks announced of new banknotes, with a denomination of 500 HK dollars denominated in HK's Geopark and launched in early 2019. The Bank of China uses the east dam of Wanyi Reservoir in Saigon, the hexagonal pillars of Po Bian Chau as a pattern. Since the angle of the hexagonal pillars falling to the sea was chosen, the land associates with Hong Kong's land sinking, the high-rise buildings tilt to the sea. "Stone Turtle" LegendThe earliest documented "Hundred Years of Hong Kong" published by Youlian Publishing House in 1941, the original text reads: "The Victoria Peak in Hong Kong is the best place for people to ascend every year. The mountain is at the center of the island stands on top of the mountain, which is the entire island in sight. Suddenly stands in the sea water, and the nearby islands are embracing themselves. The geographer said that Hong Kong and the islands are connected to form a vein, it is also connected to the opposite sea and Kowloon. Hong Kong is also a point of the dragon vein, which means the head of the dragon. The dragon's body is now hidden, now the dragon is present, so there are Hong Kong and the islands. After a few years, the period of the dragon's invisibility. Then the dragon dives deep and cannot stand out. Hong Kong and the nearby islands land sinking, buried deep in the water, also at the end of Hong Kong at this time. " "One year, someone was on the top of the mountain, saw a strange Taoist, Like a fairy. When talking about the Dragon Scriptures in public, that is to say, the dragon of Hong Kong has a state of movement. The end of Hong Kong should not be far away. On the mountain There are weird stones, countless bitter stars. The Taoist said that this is a dragon scale, try to push one of them, such as batch scales, between the moment of a push, there is an earthquake, all standers are servants. Still speaking with people, The group asked when Hong Kong was sinking, the approach was to avoid it. The Taoist said, "I should have the purpose of life-saving, and point everyone at it." He pointed at the mountainside with his hand and said, "This is a well-connected tortoise. After the land sinks in the future, it is only allowed to remain alone in the world. This turtle creeps down the mountain walks one rice-far a year. When it has reached the top of the mountain,It's the day of Lu Shen, and each has his own plan. After speaking, he disappears. Everyone eagerly looked to see a giant turtle, crawling in the middle of the mountain, running down and looking at it, it is a huge stone. " The legend of "stone turtle" in "Hong Kong Hundred Years" continued to the 1990s. The original text said that "stone turtle" slowly climbed upwards at a rate of about one grain of rice per year. When "stone turtle" climbed to the top of the mountain, Hong Kong would sink. Later, a version of "Laibuyi" appeared, It was believed that the "stone turtle" climbed from the mountain to the sea at a speed of one meter each year. The day when the "stone turtle" fell into the water at Victoria Harbour was when Hong Kong sinking. Victoria Peak is 552 meters above sea level. It takes 552 years for the "stone turtle" to climb from the top to Victoria Harbour. Lai Buyi was born during the Huizong period of the Song Dynasty. The date of birth is estimated to be 1101-1126. The "stone turtle" should have already climbed to Victoria Harbour, and it is likely to arrive in 1842. Hong Kong Island was ceded to Britain in 1842 and disappeared on the map of China, just like land sinking. If the "stone turtle" crawls at the speed of one grain of rice per year, based on one grain of rice one centimeter in length, the "stone turtle" climbs from the top of Victoria Peak to the seaside for 55,200 years. Hong Kong's sea level rises by an average of about three millimeters per year, which is slower than that of "stone turtle". Hong Kong's land sinking is out of reach. Let's work hard to build Hong Kong.

Book Short Summary:

"Myths & Legends of Japan" is one of the first western books about Japan. Although the author didn't visit the country himself, he collected the works of Lafcadio Hearn, Basil Chamberlain's "Things Japanese," researched various translations of the Kojiki and the Nihongi, and prepared one of the most thorough research pieces on the Japanese culture of the time.
