Uh-oh. Nicole Beauman had overcome a lot of obstacles in her life, and she sure as heck had never backed down from a challenge. But her boss, Zane Rankin, presented an entirely new sort of dilemma. Sexy and charming, he was like chocolate--sinfully good, but bad for her health. Nicki knew Zane didn't want to settle down, particularly not with a girl like her, and she didn't plan to lose her heart to a temporary fling. But when a friendly date got a little too friendly, things got a little bit steamy...and Nicki wound up just a little bit...pregnant. What was a girl to do?

Book Short Summary:

With more than 1.3 million video views each month and over fifty-two million total views on her YouTube channel, Howland’s (a.k.a. Mama Natural) funny but informational videos have empowered millions of women to embrace natural pregnancy and parenting. Now Howland is turning to the page, offering up the first week-by-week natural pregnancy book for soon-to-be moms. For the last half-century, control over childbirth has been in favor of doctors. Many pregnancy guidebooks are conventional, fear-based, and written by male physicians deeply entrenched in the old-school medical model of birth. But change is underway. A groundswell of women are taking back their pregnancy and childbirth and embracing a natural way. Genevieve Howland, the woman behind the enormously popular Mama Natural blog and YouTube channel, has created an inspiring, fun, and informative guide that demystifies natural pregnancy and walks mom through the process one week at a time. The Mama Natural’s Week-by-Week Guide to Pregnancy and Childbirth is the modern (and yet ancient) approach to pregnancy and childbirth. “Natural” recognizes that pregnancy and birth are normal, and that having a baby is a wondrous biological process and rite of passage—not a medical condition. This book draws upon the latest research showing how beneficial and life-changing natural birth is for both babies and moms. Full of weekly advice and tips for a healthy pregnancy, Howland details vital nutrition to take, natural remedies for common and troublesome symptoms, as well as the appropriate (and inappropriate) use of interventions. Peppered throughout are positive birth and pregnancy stories from women of all backgrounds (and all stages of their natural journey) along with advice and insights from a Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) plus a Registered Nurse (RN), doula, and lactation consultant. Encouraging, well-researched, and fun, The Mama Natural’s Week-by-Week Guide to Pregnancy and Childbirth will be an essential companion for women everywhere to embrace natural pregnancy and reap all the benefits for both baby and mama.

Book Short Summary:

Pregnancy provides a very public, visual confirmation of femininity. It is a time of rapid physical and psychological adjustment for women and is surrounded by stereotyping, taboos and social expectations. This book seeks to examine these popular attitudes towards pregnancy and to consider how they influence women’s experiences of being pregnant. Sanctioning Pregnancy offers a unique critique of sociocultural constructions of pregnancy and the ways in which it is represented in contemporary culture, and examines the common myths which exist about diet, exercise and work in pregnancy, alongside notions of risk and media portrayals of pregnant women. Topics covered include: Do pregnant women change their diet and why? Is memory really impaired in pregnancy? How risky behaviour is defined from exercise to employment The biomedical domination of pregnancy research. Different theoretical standpoints are critically examined, including a medico-scientific model, feminist perspectives and bio-psychosocial and psychodynamic approaches.

Book Short Summary:

The problem of infertility has reached epidemic levels in our society. It is projected that 40 percent of women currently 25 and younger will have difficulty conceiving a child or reaching a live birth. Amanda Hope Haley had married David, the man of her dreams, and earned a master’s degree from Harvard. She and David purchased their first home and settled down to start a family. All her hopes and dreams were coming true according to plan—until the family didn’t happen. After spending seven years begging God for a child, Amanda discovered that God gives only one hope: Jesus. Amanda having a baby wasn’t to be her happy ending. Finding wholeness by hoping only in God was her happy ending! Using Amanda’s personal stories, and the stories of other women who have struggled to have children, Barren Among the Fruitful surrounds those women struggling with infertility or miscarriage with a sense of community while providing honest facts. It leads women from confusion to understanding. Each chapter is titled with a well-meaning, but sometimes thoughtless comment Amanda was offered during her seven-year struggle with infertility. Features include: Personal stories from women who have struggled with infertility or miscarriage An honest look at the problem of infertility Questions for individual thought or group discussion

Life-Destroying Diagrams

  • Total of Pages : 496
  • Category : Performing Arts

  • Pdf File: life-destroying-diagrams.pdf

Book Short Summary:

In Life-Destroying Diagrams, Eugenie Brinkema brings the insights of her radical formalism to bear on supremely risky terrain: the ethical extremes of horror and love. Through close readings of works of film, literature, and philosophy, she explores how diagrams, grids, charts, lists, abecedaria, toroids, tempos, patterns, colors, negative space, lengths, increments, and thresholds attest to formal logics of torture and cruelty, violence and finitude, friendship and eros, debt and care. Beginning with a wholesale rethinking of the affect of horror, orienting it away from entrenched models of feeling toward impersonal schemes and structures, Brinkema moves outward to consider the relation between objects and affects, humiliation and metaphysics, genre and the general, bodily destruction and aesthetic generation, geometry and scenography, hatred and value, love and measurement, and, ultimately, the tensions, hazards, and speculative promise of formalism itself. Replete with etymological meditations, performative typography, and lyrical digressions, Life-Destroying Diagrams is at once a model of reading without guarantee and a series of generative experiments in the writing of aesthetic theory.

Stacy takes readers, week-by-week, through what she was experiencing and thinking about her pregnancy, her body, her husband, and more. She discusses the symptoms of the week (morning sickness, hemorrhoids, enormous breasts); experiences of girlfriends; and anecdotes on everything from cravings to c-sections. An extensive Q&A section includes questions from real women that are embarrassing, odd, and unusual and may include just the question you've been too nervous to ask yourself. Book Short Summary:

Babies are not simply born-they are made through cultural and social practices. Based on rich empirical work, this book examines the everyday experiences that mark pregnancy in the US today, such as reading pregnancy advice books, showing ultrasound "baby pictures" to friends and co-workers, and decorating the nursery in anticipation of the new arrival. These ordinary practices of pregnancy, the author argues, are significant and revealing creative activities that produce babies. They are the activities through which babies are made important and meaningful in the lives of the women and men awaiting the child's birth. This book brings into focus a topic that has been overlooked in the scholarship on reproduction and will be of interest to professionals and expectant parents alike.

Book Short Summary:

Over forty years ago the British Government warned the Italian Government; "Don't trust the Russians." The author was there. Today, forty years later, Newsweek echoes the same warning to any country that puts its energy sources at the political whim and fancy of Mr. Putin. And what of the warnings that the United States Government was given over sixty years ago that Mao-Ze-tung was not the 'second coming of the Messiah'? The author was there. And he seethed in rage and torment as he tried to sleep on the steel deck of a United States evacuation LST while he heard the 'Messiah's guns laying siege to Beijing. But all good things come to an end, even the bad ones, and meeting the Queen of England at the Prime Minister's residence, The Temple Trees, in Ceylon and issuing an invitation to His Royal Highness to play polo more than compensated the author for his first evacuation. But the reasons for his second evacuation from Cairo and his family's evacuation from Beirut are not quite as clear as he would like. Hearing about them might give the reader some thoughts about the difficulties faced by their fellow citizens who serve them abroad.

Maybe You Know My Teen brims with management strategies for parents new to ADHD as well as those who have coped with it throughout their child’s life. Explaining the roots of the disorder clearly and extensively, while discussing situations most likely to cause symptoms to manifest themselves, ADHD authority Mary Fowler presents step-by-step advice, along with in-depth personal stories and first-person advice from leading experts in the field. Book Short Summary:

These candid conversations capture the difficulties of reporting during crisis and war, particularly the tension between government and the press. The participants include distinguished journalists—American and foreign, print and broadcast—and prominent public officials, past and present. They illuminate the struggle to balance free speech and the right to know with the need to protect sensitive information in the national interest. As the Information Age collides with the War on Terrorism, that challenge becomes even more critical and daunting. "We are very careful in what we talk about publicly. We do not want to paint a picture for the bad guys. So we don't talk very much at all about what we're going to do going forward."—Victoria Clarke, Department of Defense "This was a war that was very different. It was conducted primarily by about 200 to 250 special forces soldiers on the ground. There were no reporters with those soldiers until after the fall of Kandahar, until the war was essentially over. There were no eyes and ears, and that's the way the Pentagon wants it."—John McWethy, ABC News "I covered Capitol Hill for a very long time and was always astounded by the nonpolitical motivation of a lot of people that are up there who really do want to make the world better, want to make the U.S. better. So don't come away believing that because there are political implications that there are always political motivations."—Candy Crowley, CNN "There is a feeling among the community, Muslim Americans, and also overseas that we might become the new enemy. But so far nobody knows whether it is just because of the war or if it's going to last."—Hafez Al-Mirazi, Al-Jazeera Cosponsored with the Shorenstein Center on the Press, Politics and Public Policy at the Kennedy School, Harvard University.

Huber have amassed a selection of essays that reflects a wide range of perspectives and approaches towards gender and sexuality. Presented in three distinct parts, the collection begins with an examination of gender in and around biblical contexts, before moving to discussing sex and sexualities, and finally critiques of gender and sexuality. Book Short Summary:

The IRS must be replaced The IRS is not producing the revenues needed to grow our economy. The fact that more poor and lower income Americans pay little or no taxes and the rich and big business have tax loopholes, plus the growing number of Americans who don’t even file any income taxes, compiled with many tax cheaters – it’s little wonder why federal revenues are declining when they should be increasing. We also have a growing underground economy in America as more and more Americans and illegals are dealing with cash only and not paying any income taxes. This underground economy is at least $500 billion a year. We must have a national consumption tax (aka national volume added or national sales tax) as of Jan. 1, 2011. We can make it 10 percent on everything. Five percent of this national consumption tax goes to the federal government and five percent goes to the states to pay for the unfunded mandates the federal government passes. Also, as of 2011, the IRS should cut IRS taxes in half and make them much more simple. In a year or two, if the national consumer tax increases federal and state revenues, we can double it to 20 percent and nearly eliminate the IRS. A national value added sales tax will let America receive revenues from goods sold in America by slave labor countries and eliminate the cash-only underground economy. Whereas I suggest that the states receive 50 percent of the revenue received by a national sales tax (aka value added tax) the states could collect and monitor this tax. With the exception of two or three states with no sales tax, they could implement and enforce this consumption tax with a few new employees. We must financially help the states because a chain is only as strong as its weakest link. Health care bill is not funded President Obama said, “This health care legislation will be the greatest legislation since Roosevelt passed the Social Security Act.” However, unlike Social Security, it is an unfunded mandate which exceeds the ability of big and small businesses to pay for. It is a socialistic boondoggle incognito. It is my opinion that big business and small business cannot afford to pay for health insurance for the many Americans whom they employ. The health care bill will cause more unemployment in America.

Book Short Summary:

Hold it! Sit! Stay! That’s better. No, I am not suggesting that you go to the New York Times and tell them, “I have a book, written by the devil. Only he’s not really the devil. He’s an extra-terrestrial. And he’s not evil. He’s God’s good brother. It’s God who is evil.” Do you think I came to you to have you put in a funny farm? You’re to publish my manuscript under your own name, as science fiction. Isn’t science fiction the only format under which any sane moral philosophy could be published for the past fifty years? You agree? I am so glad. I have to go now. The Overlords are waiting to take me home.

Book Short Summary:

It is my fervent wish and desire to bequeath to my children, grandchildren and to all children curiosity that will pique their interest to seek truth and establish values that can not be destroyed. Just as the SPIRIT of the Revolutionary solder at Valley Forge Was not crushed, so I wish and pray they will join and be come our American Spirit that will preserver and defend the Constitution from all enemies foreign and domestic. That their spirit will be the same as every crisis and war we faced and every war we won since our forefathers pledged their lives, their fortunes and their sacred honor. The same spirit that created the best country in the world that we now in. A reminder, Abraham Lincoln said "We will never be destroyed by a foreign enemy, will be defeated by the enemy from within. I hope and pray this is not prophetic. President Kennedy said when we faced another crisis, "Ask not what your country can co for you, and ask what you can do for your country". My challenge to all is, what are you willing to stick your neck out for? Is it Liberty and freedom or the slavery of Socialism?

And Augusta's divine intervention is needed now more than ever. The local college is the kind of safe place where students don't even lock their doors. At least it used to be, until girls started mysteriously disappearing. When the body of another student, D. C. Hunter, is found in a shed by the lake, Lucy and Augusta must race to figure out if her murder is connected to the deaths of two other girls. Should Augusta focus on the English professor who was having an affair with D.C.? Or on the seemingly cheerful caretaker who happened to discover two of the bodies? Book Short Summary:

“Emily Oster is the non-judgmental girlfriend holding our hand and guiding us through pregnancy and motherhood. She has done the work to get us the hard facts in a soft, understandable way.” —Amy Schumer *Fully Revised and Updated for 2021* What to Expect When You're Expecting meets Freakonomics: an award-winning economist disproves standard recommendations about pregnancy to empower women while they're expecting. From the author of Cribsheet and The Family Firm, a data-driven decision making guide to the early years of parenting Pregnancy—unquestionably one of the most profound, meaningful experiences of adulthood—can reduce otherwise intelligent women to, well, babies. Pregnant women are told to avoid cold cuts, sushi, alcohol, and coffee without ever being told why these are forbidden. Rules for prenatal testing are similarly unexplained. Moms-to-be desperately want a resource that empowers them to make their own right choices. When award-winning economist Emily Oster was a mom-to-be herself, she evaluated the data behind the accepted rules of pregnancy, and discovered that most are often misguided and some are just flat-out wrong. Debunking myths and explaining everything from the real effects of caffeine to the surprising dangers of gardening, Expecting Better is the book for every pregnant woman who wants to enjoy a healthy and relaxed pregnancy—and the occasional glass of wine.
